According to http://www.wikipedia.org/, the term wikileaks is defined as the following: WikiLeaks is an international non-profit organisation that publishes submissions of private, secret, and classified media from anonymous news sources and news leaks. Wikileaks was founded in the year 2006. The people who created wikileaks.org has not been identified, but it has been represented by a man named, Julian Assange. This website was founded based on interests in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. The mission statement for http://www.wikileaks.org/ states: "primary interest is in exposing oppressive regimes in Asia, the former Soviet bloc, Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East, but we also expect to be of assistance to people of all regions who wish to reveal unethical behaviour in their governments and corporations."
When I got assigned the topic of wikileaks in my class for this week, the first question that crossed my mind was what exactly is Wikileaks? I have never heard of Wikileaks so this week's blog post taught me alot of new information on this topic. The first thing I did after coming up with the question then, I went to Google Search. The first website that came up for my search was http://www.wikipedia.org/. On Wikipedia's page, it had the whole history about Wikileaks and this is where I found all of my information for this post.
Reflection:
The site that I used to help me find reliable information for my question was:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WikiLeaks. This link taught me all of the information that is listed above, and I will definitely used wikipedia as a source again. I feel that Wikileaks was founded on good principles, because it gives people a chance for their voice to be heard on what they feel about their government' and different corporations'.
