What I Liked About the Class LOR-101
While taking the class LOR-101 I liked several things that we did in this class. The first thing that I liked was how my teacher knew how to answer all of my questions completely, and in a way that I could understand. The second thing that I liked was how we did group work in class. This helped me understand the databases more and the correct order of how to citate when we used the pieces of paper. This helped me because I learn better doing more hands on projects. The third thing that I liked was actually having homework assignments and having to do our weekly blogs. The reasoning behind this was because the homework taught me how to create and customize a Google Custom Search Engine, and the blogs helped me express myself. The last thing that I liked was how helpful the information that I learned from this class helped me in my other classes. As you can see, I really enjoyed taking this class for the reasons I listed above, and I would reccommend everybody to take this class.
What I learned from LOR-101
When I first signed up to take the class LOR-101, I thought it was just going to be a class where I could just work on homework, kind of like a study hall. To my amazement, the class was not like this at all. Instead, we learned about the different databases that an individual could use to help locate information. I also learned which databases are best for different subjects such as ERIC is for education. I also learned how to citate, such as in APA form, and about plagarism, which consisted of the different types. Before I took this class I had no idea about any of this information that I just stated, but by taking LOR-101 it helped me with research for my other classes such as English papers. I feel that this class was really helpful to my education and own knowledge and I am glad that I took this class.

What are the 20 Biggest Tech Failures of 2010?
In 2010, there were many of advances that entered into the world but there was also several that were failures. On a website called, http://www.infoworld.com/, I learned 20 of the biggest technology failures of 2010. These included: Google Buzz, Apple Ping, Google Wave, Net Neutrality, Facebook Privacy, McAfee's False Positive, Palm Pre and WebOS, HP Slate 500, Android Tablets, Google Nexus One, Joo Joo, Plastic Logic Que, Gray Powell and Brian Hogan, iPhone 4 Antenna, Whit iPhone 4, Blackberry Torch, Ask.com, Blockbuster, MySpace, and Microsoft Kin.
My thought process for this blog consisted of searching the web for the top 20 biggest technology failures just to ease my curiosity. I always wondered what failed and what didn't so I went to Google and did a Google Search and the first website that came up was http://www.infoworld.com/. On this website it consisted of a powerpoint that included the top 20 technology failures. This website was reliable because in the powerpoint presentation it gave me reasons why each product was a failure and the website as a whole was rated as a 10 by reviewers. The link that I used for this blog was: http://www.infoworld.com/d/applications/the-20-biggest-tech-failures-2010-093¤t=1&last=22#slideshowTop.

What to do When Technology Failure Occurs?
Technology failure, can occur anywhere. For example, it can occur at your office, at your house, in your community, and even at univerisites. In an article that I read, the article talked about technology failure on campus. The article stated that viruses, spyware, and cyber problems can cause sudden disruptions to Campus Mail, such as Racer Mail, and even to the Internet.
The article went on to tell a procedure of steps that an individual can do after this type of failure occurs. First, key personnel are notified and recovery groups are grouped so that they can solve the problem. After the team is notified, they will do everything to try and figure out the best solution to solve your situation. When a disaster happens people must remember that people are the most valuable resource.
My thought process for this blog was to come up with a question. I knew that technology failure was when technology all of a sudden shuts down or stops working completely, so I wanted to figure out what students could do on campus if a problem occurred. After coming up with my question, I then went to Google and did a Google Search and found an article on http://www.southernct.edu/. This article was the first link that popped up on my Google Search. The link gave me reliable information and answered my question completely and I now know how to handle my problems if a technology failure occurs and I can educate my friends as well. The link that I used for this blog was: http://www.southernct.edu/emergencypreparedness/informationtechnologyfailure/

The Kindle Electronic Book Reader; Will it Last?
The latest technology to the average book reader has been changed dramatically. How? The latest technology out is an electronic book reader, or a Kindle. The Kindle has several features that are very appealing to the customer. For example, it is wireless and very independent, it uses high resolution so that the text is very readable, and it even offers free book samples so that the customer can try out the book before purchasing the Kindle.
Do I feel like this product is going to last? The answer is Yes! I feel this way because when books get printed several trees have to be cut down in order to print the text on the pages, but with the Kindle electronic book reader, this problem does not have to occur any longer. The reason I feel like this product will last is because several people care about the environment and this product is environment friendly.
My thought process for this blog consisted of going to Google and conducting a Google Search. The first website that came up with accurate and reliable information to my question was: http://www.patronbooks.com/. This website told me every feature that this product has to offer to the customer and why it is appealing.
The link I used was: http://patronbooks.com/2011/04/14/kindle-electronic-book-reader-features/

What is the iPad 2?
The iPad2 is a product made by Apple. This product is typically termed as "new technology!" Why? The answer is simple. According to http://www.apple.com/, as soon as somebody picks up this product they are not going to want to put it down. The iPad2 is now 33% thinner and up to 15% lighter than the original iPad so it feels more comfortable in your hands. This product has two very powerful chips in it and this makes it an advantage to the customer because they can do two times the surfing faster and a 10 hour battery life.
Now, the question is, do you think that this product will last? To me, I feel that this product will last because with all of the features that this new technology has to offer, more people are going to want to buy this product and surf the web fast. Picture this, why would you want to be using a product that takes several minutes to surf the web when you can get one simple product and surf two times as fast. I feel like the iPad2 is the latest technology and it will be around until something new and improved comes along because people always want the next best thing.
My thought process for this blog consisted of coming up with a product name that is labeled as new technology. After coming up with the product, iPad2, I then went to Google and did a google search. Tide vs.Gain; How They Compare and Contrast
I am sure that everybody is familiar with the products: Tide and Gain. For my blog assignment this week, I was asked to compare and contrast two products. I immediately thought of laundry detergents' because I know that when I wash laundry I want to get the best detergent for the job and for my money's worth.
So, let's talk about how Tide and Gain are alike. First, both products are used to wash laundry. Second. both of these products are made from P&G and third, both products are made with appealing smells to lure the customers to buy the products.
Now, that we have distinguished how these products are similar let's talk about how they are different. First, at Walmart, Tide was priced at $6.86 whereas Gain only cost $5.97. Another difference, is that Tide pays alot more money for advertising such as commercials like Loads of Hope for Haiti. With commercials such as this, it makes it more appealing to the customers especially because they know that they are doing a better deed for somebody else. I found this information on the links': http://www.tide.com/en-US/categoryresults.jspx?q=tide+commericals+&localePath=en-US&localeName=en_US&x=30&y=17 and http://www.afullcup.com/forums/product-review/202401-tide-vs-gain.html.
From these links', I found reliable information. I found reviews on the products from individuals' just like us and how they feel about these two products, and even how Tide's advertising techiniques are more appealing. Now, you can see how these two products compare and contrast, and hopefully next time when you go grocery shopping you can come up with a better conclusion on which product to purchase.

Two Different Brands/Types of Insulin; How they Compare and How They Contrast!
For the disorder of diabetes, there are several different types of insulin that people with this disorder can do for treatment of their disorder. The types' consist of: rapid-acting, short-acting, intermediate-acting, long-acting, and pre-mixed. Along with the several different types of insulin that can be used to treat diabetes, there are also several different brands of insulin. Some of these brands consist of insulin made by the following companies: Novolin, Lilly, and Lantus. Novolin makes Novolog, Lilly makes Humalog, and Lantus makes Apidra.
Now, let's talk about two of these brands; Novolog & Humoalog are alike. Both of the insulins are man-made insulins. Another way that these two products are alike is because they are both considered as rapid-acting insulins. The third way that these two products are alike is because they are both used to cover meals and snacks and to lower high blood sugars.
Although, these two products have some similarities, there are also some differences between the two products. Novolog is more appealing to the customer because it starts working faster than Humalog. In a recent study found on, http://www.diabetesnet.com/, Novolog reaches its peak at 52 minutes where as Humalog reaches its peak at 75 minutes. Another difference, is that the FDA has reccommended and approved that Novolog should be used in insulin pumps because its works at a faster rate.
As you can see, there are similarities and differences between these two products. Now, the next question is how did I come up with this thought process. First, I came up with the topic of doing my blog over two different brands of insulin because I recently had to prepare a presentation over this topic. After I conducted my question, I created a Google Custom Search Engine, and came up with a list of websites that includes information about diabetes. The link to my custom search engine is: http://www.google.com/cse/manage/create/3?cx=002008913936411000852:vjeic6mww9w. The link that I used for the information in this blog was: http://www.morefocused.com/articles/diabetes/types-of-insulin.php. From these links, I found reliable information over this topic and I have supported this by citing sources.

What is the Florence Nightingale Nursing Theory?
After my last blog, I did more research and I found out that there is actually a theory according to Nightingale about nursing. According to Nightingale on http://www.wikipedia.org/ , nursing contributes to the ability of persons to maintain and restore health directly or indirectly through managing the environment. She felt as if the person has a key role in their health and the function of the health through the interaction of the person, the nurse, and the environment. The theory involves the environment because of certain factors such as: pure or fresh air, pure water, sufficient food supplies, and cleanliness.
After reading this theory by Nightingale, I agree completely with her. I feel that the person does play a key role in their health because for example. a person decides what they want to put into their bodies. Along with what was just said, in order to nurse someone, it has to involve the relationship with the person who is ill, the nurse, and the environment.
My thought process for this blog consisted of going to Google Search and found an article on http://www.wikipedia.org/. The information that I obtained was reliable because I checked the other articles that the information came from and it all matched. I learned alot from doing these blogs that I had no idea about in my major of nursing. The link that I used was: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nightingale's_environmental_theory

Who is Florence Nightingale?
Florence Nightingale was born in 1820. Florence Nightingale had a broad education and became to realize that she did not like the lack of opportunity for females in her social circle. She was interested in helping the poor, but then later became interested in looking after people who were very ill. In this time period, nurses' were considered to be a little less than prositutes. After this, Nightingale began visiting hospitals looking for possible occupations for women. In 1854, the Crimean War broke out and nurses' were needed. Nightingale along with thirty-eight nurses went to help the people, and they ended up getting the place back in order. After the war in 1855, a Nightingale fund was set up to found a training school for nurses. After setting up the school, Nightingale received the Order of Merit and the badge of honour of the Norwegian Red Cross Society, along with several other accomplishments.
The assignment this week was to pick somebody that became famous in my major. I am majoring in nursing and the first person that popped up in my head was Florence Nightingale. I immediately thought of her because of how successful she became and basically started the nursing field for women. I am thankful for this because I have always been interested in helping people and nursing is the perfect profession for me. I feel that if Nightingale did not do everything that she accomplished that women would not be respected in the nursing field.
My thought for the blog consisted of coming up with the question, "Who is Florence Nightingale?" After this, I went to the first website listed and I found everything that I was looking for. The information that I obtained was accurate and very reliable because I checked the references that was listed on the page. The link that I used was: http://www.victorianweb.org/history/crimea/florrie.html.

Consumer Tips: Faces of Internet Piracy
After finding out what the term internet piracy meant, I then wanted to find out what were some tips to help protect individuals'. On an article titled: "Consumer Tips: Faces of Internet Piracy," there were 10 tips listed by the BSA that will steer individuals' clear from internet piracy. The 10 tips consisted of:
- Trust your instincts. Check the online seller’s price against the estimated retail value of the software. If a price seems “too good to be true,” it probably is.
- Make sure it’s authentic. Be suspicious of software products that do not include proof of authenticity such as original disks, manuals, licensing, services policies, and warranties.
- Beware of backups. Avoid sellers offering to make backup copies. This is a clear indication the software is illegal.
- Steer clear of compilations. Be wary of compilations of software titles from different publishers on a single disk or CD.
- Get seller’s contact information. If you cannot contact the seller after making a purchase, you may have no recourse if the product turns out to be pirated. Make certain to get the seller’s address, if possible.
- Keep Receipts. Printout a copy of your order number and sales confirmation and file them for your records. This information will help build your case if it is pirated and further action is needed.
- Ensure secure payment. Make certain that the Internet connections you are using are secure.
- Understand transaction terms. Get a clear understanding of the merchant’s policies concerning returns and refunds, shipping costs, and security and privacy protection before you complete the transaction. Most importantly, look for a trust mark from a reputable organization to make sure the online retailer is reliable and has a proven track record of satisfying customers.
- Do your homework. Before making a purchase, do as much research on the seller and vendor as you can. Check the seller’s rating or feedback comments when on an auction site. Some of the most frequently sold titles on auction sites include products by Adobe, Autodesk, Corel, Intuit, McAfee, Microsoft, and Symantec.
- Ask the experts. Contact the BSA with any concerns or questions by calling 1-888-NOPIRACY or visiting our Web site www.bsa.org.
Reflection: My thought process for this blog was to find out what individuals' can do to better protect themselves from this issue. I went to Google Search and typed in my question and the first website that popped up was: http://www.portal.bsa.org. From this website I received reliable information and now I know what to do to better protect myself from piracy. I feel that this link is useful and any individual would be satisfied with the information that is listed on the website. The link that I used was: http://www/portal.bsa.org/faces/consumer-tips.html.
What is Internet Piracy?
This week's blog assignment was over the topic of internet piracy. The first thought that popped into my head is what does this term mean? According to http://www.microsoft.com, internet piracy refers to the use of the Internet for illegal copying or distributing unauthorized software. The BSA or the Business Software Alliance stated that there are over 840,000 internet sites distributing illegal software as the real thing! So, what does this mean? This means that the people who buy from these sites lose their money, some never even receive what they pay money for, and the websites often vanish and leave all of the customers angry and penniless. A common example of internet piracy is when individuals' download music illegally. For example, there is a software called FrostWire, on this software an individual can download music illegally. So in this case, FrostWire would be the culprit of an example of internet piracy.
Reflection: My thought process for this question consisted of going to Google Search and typing in the question, "What is Internet Piracy." From this search the first website that popped up was http://www.microsoft.com and it consisted of an article. From this article I obtained reliable information that answered my question completely and I now have a better understanding to what exactly the term internet piracy means. On this issue, I feel that downloading music illegally and how these websites con individuals is wrong. I feel that every individual should have to pay just like the rest and that the ones who do not should be punished.
The link that I used to answer this question was: http://www.microsoft.com/canada/piracy/basics/what/ip.mspx and the article was titled: "What is Piracy."

How can an Individual Avoid Information Overload?
After finding out what information overload meant and how it caused stress to individuals, I then wanted to learn how an individual could avoid information overload and the stress that comes with it. An article that I found stated that there are things that an individual can do to have a more productive workday and avoid information overload. The article mapped out ten tips to achieve just this. The ten tips consist of:
1. Define a Workspace- Avoid communicating, only do work in this area.
2. Centralize Communications- Use one means of communication so you dont get distracted.
3. Avoid Immediate Responses- Avoid responding to email's and IM's immediately. Set aside a time to do this.
4. Spend Time with People- Set aside time with colleagues everyday you're more likely to not get interrupted.
5. Take a Break- Unwind and realign your focus.
6.Try Disconnecting- Silence phones etc. to reduce distractions
7. Cut the News- Focus more on getting work done than trying to figure out what is going on around you.
8. Most Important Tasks First, Everyday- Start with the bulk and get done faster and more efficiently.
9. Why Am I Doing This?- Knowing why you are completing a task at work will help motivate an individual.
10. Keep a Consistent Schedule- This will break some of your distractions.
As you can see, information overload can be avoided. I feel that this article was reliable and helpful because some people have the same questions as myself, and do not know how they can avoid stress at the workplace. I feel that this article states ten realiable steps that any individual can follow and grasp onto.
My thought process for coming up with this answer consisted of steps. I first came up with the question, "How can an Individual Avoid Information Overload? What is Information Overload?
What exactly does information overload mean? This question has crossed my mind ever since I got assigned with this blog. When I started searching for what information overload means, I found a variety of answers for my question. According to http://www.wikipedia.org/, information overload can be referred to as the difficulty a person can have understanding an issue and making decisions that can be caused by the presence of too much information. Also, on http://www.businessdictionary.com/, it states the following for what the word infomation overload means: "Stress induced by reception of more information than is necessary to make a decision (or that can be understood and digested in the time available) and by attempts to deal with it with outdated time management practices."
So what exactly does this mean? The way that I interpretted these answers was that whenever a person accumulates more informatin than they can handle or have time for, this can result in negative emotions such as stress. To me, information overload is not good on an individual because who wants to be stressed out? I know I don't!
The thought process that I used to get my answers for my question consisted of steps. First, I went to Google and I typed in, "What is Information Overload?" The second search result that was listed was from http://www.wikipedia.org/ and that is where I got one of my answers. I then checked the references at the bottom of the page to make sure that the information that I obtained was accurate and it all checked out. After this, I then wanted to find another definition and see how other websites compared to wikipedia so I found the next search option which was http://www.businessdictionary.com/. From the two sites, I basically got the same answer to my question just in different ways of saying it. I feel that with the two links that I used that I found reliable information to back up my question and that my question was answered thoroughly. The two links that I used were: http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/information-overload.html and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Information_overload.

What are the United States and EU Privacy Laws?
The EU Privacy Law was passed in March of '06. This directive legally requires all Internet and telephone service providers to keep record of communication data for two years. Telephone providers record: the telephone number, the name and address of registered users, whether it was a phone call or a text message etc, and the location of both users. Internet service providers record the userID, the date and time of log-on and log-off, and even the phone number for dial up access.
As stated in my previous blog, the United States Privacy Law helps protect individuals from infringment from the government. There are problems with the American Privacy Law. The Georgetown Law Journal stated the following:
Reflection: I wanted to find out more information about the EU Privacy Law and the U.S. Privacy Law. I did not know exactly what each law protected individuals from but the link: http://youthandmedia.org/wiki/United_States_and_EU_Privacy_Laws, answered all of my questions. Also, when I read the abstract from the Georgetown Law Journal, if there are problems with the American privacy law then what can people actually rely on so their information is not leaked out to the public? I feel like there needs to be changes done to this law before an individual like myself can feel 100% protected.
As stated in my previous blog, the United States Privacy Law helps protect individuals from infringment from the government. There are problems with the American Privacy Law. The Georgetown Law Journal stated the following:
- More broadly, since American privacy law often remains focused around individualistic conceptions of privacy, it has not fully embraced protecting confidentiality in relationships. In many other contexts, such as trade secrets and business confidences, American law readily provides remedies against unwarranted breaches of trust. But in the domain of privacy, American law has not progressed nearly as far as English law in recognizing and protecting trust in relationships. An increased recognition of a confidentiality-based conception of privacy might also have significant implications in other areas of American privacy law that developed under the influence of Warren and Brandeis. [7] (Richards, Neil M. and Solove, Daniel J., "Privacy's Other Path: Recovering the Law of Confidentiality" . Georgetown Law Journal, 2007 Available at SSRN: http://ssrn.com/abstract=969495)

What is Digital Privacy / Anonymity?
According to an article titled, "Digital Privacy," on http://www/youthandmedia.org, the term digital privacy cannot really be defined because it is on-going and relative. What does this mean? A person could define digital privacy alot differently in the Colonial times than say a person did today. Who exactly does digital privacy protect? The article stated that privacy protection can be broken down to include protection from: Government, (The U.S. Privacy law protects individuals from infringement by the government,) Service Provides like Google and Facebook, privacy from schools and teachers, and privacy from employers, health insurers, neighbors, etc.
Digital Privacy also protects people from having their pictures taken without their permission and being circulated on the Internet. In this article, it talked about how in 2006, there was an incident that took place on a bus between two men and the incident was recorded by a fellow passenger. In May 2006, this video became the most popular video. Incidents like this happen all of the time but what happened to digital privacy? I thought that we were supposed to be protected from these types of incidents as individuals.
Think about this! How much information is out there on the Internet about yourself? There are websites like Topix, where people start forums about you and its anonymous. What does this mean? When someone posts items on Topix about an individual that person has no idea who it was because you don't have to include a name. On Facebook, you are supposed to be protected from hackers because profiles are supposed to be private, but what about the people who get past this and still get all of your information?
Reflection: I have never really thought about this issue until it was assigned to me. After I started doing the research it all started to add up to me and most of the questions that have been crossing my mind were getting answered. For example, does anybody really know everything that there is out on the Internet about themselves? This is a scary issue. I feel like as individuals we should be protected more than what we are and this issue would seize. I found all of my information for this blog on, http://youthandmedia.org/wiki/Category:Digital_Privacy.

What was the first Smart phone called and what features did the phone include?
I have always wondered what the first smartphone invented was called. This has crossed my mind, because my blackberry is classifed as a smartphone but I know that my phone was not the first one invented. The first smartphone invented was called the Simon. This phone was designed by IBM in the year of 1992. The Simon was not released out into the public until 1993. This smart phone included: a calendar, an address book, world clock, calculator, note pad, e-mail, send and receive fax, and games.
After coming up with my question, I went to Google Search. From here, I went to this first link. This link took me to the website of http://www.wikipedia.org/. On this website, it told me exactly what the first smart phone invented was called and what features this phone included. This website answered my question completely and I feel that it was reliable information because after clicking on the sources at the bottom of the page, it showed me several different websites with the same information that I listed above. The link that I used was: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smartphone#Early_years.

What are Smart Phones, and how are they different from ordinary cellphones?
I am the owner of a Blackberry Curve and this particular type of phone is classified as: a smartphone. What is a smartphone? How are they different than other cell phones? These questions have always been in my mind because I never knew exactly what a smart phone was and all of the features it included. According to http://www.wikipedia.org/, a smartphone is a mobile phone that offers more advanced computing ability and connectivity than a contempory feature phone. So, what exactly does this mean? This means that smart phones are more like computers than just an ordinary cell phone. Smart phones have access to do a lot more than an ordinary phone. For example: most smart phones are touch screen where as in an ordinary phone when you send a text message you have to push the corresponding number to get the letter that is desired.
I found all of this information on http://www.wikipedia.org/. I first came up with the question which is: "What are Smart Phones, and how are they different from ordinary cellphones?" After this, I went to Google Search and typed in my question. From my results, the first link that came up was a website that just had the definition for what smart phone meant, but I needed to know more information than this, so I went to the second link which was: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smartphone. This link answered all of my questions and it gave me reliable information. I feel that this link was the best choice because I did not have to go to other websites and find the answers to my questions I got all my answers at one location.

How does Wikileaks manage their funding?
On my last blog post, I found out information on the non-profit organization called Wikileaks. I did not know any information about this topic, but I found out exactly when and who represents this organization. My next question about this topic, is how does Wikileaks manage their funding?
Wikileaks, has not always had a good experience with their funding for the organization. In 2009, they announced that they were having a shortage of funds, and had to take away the right for people to access their website unless people had new material. Wikileaks did not get their minimum amount of money that they wanted to receive until Feb. of 2010. In January though, Pay Pal suspended Wikileaks donation account and froze all Wikileaks assets. The organization was restored on the twenty-fifth of January and in May 2010 they announced that the archive and website was back up.
For this blog, I found the information listed above from the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WikiLeaks#Funding. I had no idea that the organization would have this much trouble with money, because if you just read about it you would think it would be a huge trend and soar in the funding field. I always wondered how websites like Wikileaks managed their funding and now from this link I know exactly how. Wikipedia is an excellent source to get information from, and I made sure that my information was accurate by clicking on the links at the bottom of the screen and found exactly where wikipedia.org got their information for this topic.

What is Wikileaks?
According to http://www.wikipedia.org/, the term wikileaks is defined as the following: WikiLeaks is an international non-profit organisation that publishes submissions of private, secret, and classified media from anonymous news sources and news leaks. Wikileaks was founded in the year 2006. The people who created wikileaks.org has not been identified, but it has been represented by a man named, Julian Assange. This website was founded based on interests in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. The mission statement for http://www.wikileaks.org/ states: "primary interest is in exposing oppressive regimes in Asia, the former Soviet bloc, Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East, but we also expect to be of assistance to people of all regions who wish to reveal unethical behaviour in their governments and corporations."
When I got assigned the topic of wikileaks in my class for this week, the first question that crossed my mind was what exactly is Wikileaks? I have never heard of Wikileaks so this week's blog post taught me alot of new information on this topic. The first thing I did after coming up with the question then, I went to Google Search. The first website that came up for my search was http://www.wikipedia.org/. On Wikipedia's page, it had the whole history about Wikileaks and this is where I found all of my information for this post.
Reflection:
The site that I used to help me find reliable information for my question was:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WikiLeaks. This link taught me all of the information that is listed above, and I will definitely used wikipedia as a source again. I feel that Wikileaks was founded on good principles, because it gives people a chance for their voice to be heard on what they feel about their government' and different corporations'.

What are the Main Goals for the Egyptian Protests?
As seen in my last blog, the Egyptians have been protesting for weeks now wanting to earn their rights and opportunites as individuals. The main goal that the Egpytians are wanting to accomplish from this protest is to have their president Hosni Mubarak step down. The reason that the people are wanting this is because they are blaming Hosni Mubarak for the torture and unemployment they have had to go through over the thirty year reign Mubarak has held in Egypt. A writer by the name of Robert Fisk stated in the article that I read, "...you don't need to read the papers to see what has gone wrong. The filth and the slums, the open sewers and the corruption of every government official, the bulging prisons, the laughable elections, the whole, vast sclerotic edifice of power has at last brought Egyptians on to their streets.'' From this quote, I took that Robert Fisk is agreeing with the people of Egypt and he hopes to see them get their rights and economic opportunities as well.
I blogged about the Egyptian Protests in my last blog, and from the information that I obtained from that blog, I wanted to know more about this topic and why exactly the people blamed Hosni Mubarak. For this question, I went to Google Search as well. This time when I searced I typed in Egyptian Protesting+Main Goals and it brought me to the link: http://www.chacha.com/topic/egyptian-protests/news/what-are-the-egyptian-protests-main-goals. From this link I found out exactly why the people wants their president to step down and I agree completely with the people of Egypt. I feel that every individual should have rights and economic opportunites just like we are offered in the United States. Don't you?

Why are the Egyptians protesting in Cairo?
Egyptians have been protesting their government for weeks now hoping to remove their president of thirty years. The President of Egypt is a man by the name of Hosni Mubarak. The Egyptians are hoping to create a democracy for themselves like the United States. They are wanting to earn their rights and earn more opportunites economically. With this protest going on, it puts Barack Obama, our president, in a nutshell because Mubarak has been an ally to the United States for several years. The United States is wanting to see the Egyptians earn their rights and become a democracy, and recently, Obama has cut down the funds tremendously hoping that Mubarak will back down on his own.
This week we were asked to blog about the Egyptian protests. I personally, did not understand completely what was going on and why the Egyptians were doing the protest so that is the reason why I titled my blog, "Why are the Egyptians protesting in Cairo?" After coming up with this question, I did a Google Search. When I serached this question several websites and links came up but one link stuck out to me in particular. The link that I used to supply the answer to my question was: http://www.kstatecollegian.com/opinion/egyptians-protest-for-freedom-leaves-u-s-in-awkward-spot-1.2454124. From this link, I found reliable information and found out the answer to my question. I now understand why the protest is going on.

When was the Wrather West Kentucky Museum built on Murray State University's campus?
The Wrather West Kentucky Museum was built in 1924. The first constructions of this museum was started in the year of 1924 on the campus of Murray State University. It wasn't until September 22, 1982 that this building was dedicated as the Wrather West Kentucky Museum. When the building was first built, the building was used for classes and and pep rallies, and even housed the bookstore. Now, the Wrather West Kentucky Museum is used to house exhibits and is open to the public at no charge.
Before researching, I had to come up with a question about Murray State history. I decided to talk about the first building that was built on Murray States campus. After coming up with the question, "When was the Wrather West Kentucky Museum built on Murray State University's campus," I had to then decide how I was going to research and find the answer to my question. The first step that I did was go to Google Search. From there, I typed in the words "site:Wrather Museum built on Murray State University's campus." When typing these words into Google Search, it brought up several websites that listed information that could be answers to my question. The one website that answered my question completely and gave me reliable information was actually from the Murray State University website. The link to my research findings is: http://www.murraystate.edu/HeaderMenu/Administration/InstitutionalAdvancement/wrathermuseum.aspx. I feel that from this link, I got the right answer to my question!

What Requirements does a student have to meet in order to be eligible to get accepted into the nursing program at Murray State University?
In order for a student who is interested in the field of nursing to get accepted into the nursing program at Murray State University, the student has to first complete requirments before they are eligible. These requirements consist of:
- Completed pre-requisite courses in italics listed below with a "C" or better.
- Be admitted to Murray State University with a major in Nursing.
- Have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and 30 credit hours.
- Required immunizations.
- Completion of the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS).
- Admission is limited and selection is based upon GPA and TEAS score.
- All transfer credit must have been received and processed by MSU.
The reasoning behind myself asking this question is, I am a student that is interested in the nursing program and I myself was wondering what process I needed to complete to accomplish my goal. I went to the Murray State website which is http://www.murraystate.edu/ and I seen on the homepage that there was a tab titled, "Academics." After clicking on the Academics tab I clicked on the tab titled, "All Majors and Programs." This page brought up every single major and program that Murray State has to offer. I scrolled down until I seen nursing, and went to the nursing page. On this page is where I found the answer to my question. The link I used is: http://www.murraystate.edu/Academics/CollegesDepartments/nursing/BSN.aspx. I feel that this link answered my question thoroughly and I did in fact get accurate information.

When was the first State of the Union Address televised, and by whom?
The first State of the Union Address was televised in 1947 by Harry S. Truman. Harry S. Truman was the first president to deliver the State of the Union Address on television. In the past, other presidents delivered the annual speech, but it wasn't until 1947 that the speeches' started being televised. The first ever State of the Union address was given by George Washington in 1790, and the State of the Union was only shared with the public through newspapers until Coolidge broadcasted his address on the radio. The first president to ever use the phrase "State of the Union," was Franklin D. Roosevelt.
As you can see, there has been several State of the Union addresses given in the past, but it wasn't until 1947 that the speech started being broadcasted on television. Since then, every single speech has been televised. I found this information through Google Search. The process for finding my answer to my question consisted of me going to Google and locating the answer through the website: http://www.usgovinfo.about.com/. The information that was located from this website answered my question completely and gave me realiable information with important dates from history. Hence, this is why I feel that Harry S. Truman and 1947 is the best answer to my question, "When was the first State of the Union Address televised and by whom?"

What is the State of the Union Address?
In the United States Constitution, it says the following: "[The President] shall from time to time give to the Congress Information on the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient...." Article II, Sec. 3. I found this information on the website: http://www.gpoaccess.gov/. The State of the Union Address is an address directed to Congress about issues in the nation and how the President plans on handling these issues, but also, lets the President of the United States outline his step-by-step agenda on what he is planning to do for the nation to Congress.
Barack Obama gave his first State of the Union address on January 25, 2010. For this blog, I used Google Search to help me locate information on the State of the Union Address and this is what I found. Within my Google Search I found several websites with reliable information that would help me with this blog. The answer for the question above: "What is the State of the Union Address," came from Google Search and the websites: http://www.gpoacces.gov/, and http://www.guardian.co.uk/. I feel like I got the best answer for the question that I asked, because the websites had all of the information that I was looking for. Between the two websites various answers for my question ranged from the article that the State of the Union Address was mentioned in the United States Constitution, to when Barack Obama delivered his first State of the Union Address.
